Like every instrument how to learn the guitar, has its basics and its more complicated things. The guitar series of musical scales is where you need to begin. As with all scales for nay instruments you can start with the basics and then get more and more complicated as you improve.

Start to with how to learn the guitar scales with a basic songbook which will show how to make the scales by showing which strings to push on to the frets and where to push them down, with practice you will be able to move between the scales with more fluidity and to more complicated ones.

Before this you need to find the simplest way to hold the guitar in a way that is most comfortable. You need to be able to move your fingers to each string and you must be able to move your hand along the fret board from top to bottom.

Next you have to choose how you will learn the initial basics,DVD,computer,book or personal tuition. Of course you can use a combination of these methods.

The scales depend on the sort of music you want to play when you get more accomplished, different styles such as blues, jazz and rock all use different scales.

The best scales to start with are the ones which use the least movement of fingers, this allows practice with out to much difficulty. The basic scale for guitarists to follow is C G D A E, practice this if possible and then try and move between the notes quicker as you improve.

Once you have learned the basics you can move on to more complicated scales and you can practice stopping and starting the scales and perhaps reversing through them.

The most basic form of how to learn the guitar scales is to play the tableaux method which shows which string to depress in order to play the note, any indications shown together indicate playing the strings at the same time, if one follows the other horizontally it indicates the next and separate note.

Learn to Play Guitar Chords

At the base of all guitar playing is how well you’re able to learn to play guitar chords, the combination of notes that all the music and its forms are based around. The different musical styles you may wish to play are all chord based and how you use them for your required style and sound.

The basic chords are played by pressing the correct strings down on to the frets on the fret board; also then the correct strings have to be strummed to get the correct sound as some chords don’t use all six strings. The guitar tablature you get with basic lessons will explain how to do this with a simple table of lines and dots.

The lines represent the 6 strings in horizontal lines across. The strings read e,b,g,d,a,e .The frets are represented by vertical bars on the table. On the strings are black dots which represent the strings which are to be pressed, you will also see the letter x on some strings, this indicates strings not to play to form the chord required.

There are numerous styles of guitar to play and numerous sounds used in different forms are something to that will come after practice. Practice is essential and while you learn to play guitar chords, all aspects needed for playing the chords. You have to be able to maneuver your hand and fingers to the correct places, when there you have to be able to press the correct strings without pressing others. This will take strength and co ordination to master, while you are practicing maybe try air guitar or playing a piece of wood to get the general idea.

How to Play Funk Guitar

Playing funk guitar is seen as an advanced and a harder style to play properly, although if you work through the basic levels of guitarist lessons this style will be possible. One problem though is that you will need to play some of the notes and chords in a different way in order to get the recognised funk sound. The difference is achieved with your fretting hand this will become apparent when you learn how to play the funk guitar.

One major difference is that the notes and chords are played and cut ,this is too make the sound follow a more rhythmic pattern then you normally play in other styles. This is the first thing that need to be mastered and is where you should start.

Another thing to remember is that the funk guitarist tends to be one who plays repeated sequences and keeps to a songs rhythm. They don’t tend to play stage stealing solos so bear this in mind when you start to learn.

To this end the person you need to follow in the band is the drummer,you will mainly be playing the same rhythm that the drummer is .Being able to follow and match the drummer will mean you have learnt the skill well. Most funk guitarists play simple chord sequences,ones that sound more like a percussion style form then a traditional guitar sound.

To get the sound you will learn and isolate the chords that you want to learn, and then you will learn how to combine these chords in order to play songs you want to learn. How you move from chord to chord is also important as you need to be quick and accurate to get the sound right and to tie into the songs rhythm. It is possible by using only a few chords to get a decent tune by combining them correctly, in fact the standard 7th,9th.11th and 13th chords are staples that cover most of the ones needed.

Learn Jazz Guitar

Within the remit of guitar is many types, styles and sub types; to learn jazz guitar is one such discipline. As with all types of musical instruments you will need to begin with standard basics before getting more adventurous. With guitars that means learning the basic notes and chord sequences, then learning how to combine them. You will need theses basics before progressing to any speciality as they all use the same chords but in different ways.

The basics for jazz guitar will be taught in the same ways as when you first learn the guitar, using basic guitar tables which will show you what strings to press while strumming which strings. The basic chords are the same as ever but the difference comes in the way they are combined and which chords are used.

There are names for the various chord sequences used in jazz guitar but it’s pointless to name them without you actually playing and practising as until then they will be meaningless. Suffice to say when learned they will help you to play jazz style guitar, this can be used exclusively for jazz playing or can be incorporated in other styles.

There are as with every guitar style numerous ways to learn and to practise. However good you are a whilst you learn jazz guitar, a visit or two to a teacher can’t hurt, similarly use of tuition books or DVDs can help. If you are learning from scratch then the course you are following will probably make reference to jazz styles and will probably include some teaching.

Another trick to learn jazz guitar, that applies to all styles is too watch how your favorite players play their songs and how they work through chord sequences. Many of these songs will be available in both guitar tablature and in regular music notation.

When you mix together the teachings, the chords and notes you learn and add the jazz variation you should ended up with the sound you want or at least a new sound and style to use.
