Learn to Play Guitar Chords

At the base of all guitar playing is how well you’re able to learn to play guitar chords, the combination of notes that all the music and its forms are based around. The different musical styles you may wish to play are all chord based and how you use them for your required style and sound.

The basic chords are played by pressing the correct strings down on to the frets on the fret board; also then the correct strings have to be strummed to get the correct sound as some chords don’t use all six strings. The guitar tablature you get with basic lessons will explain how to do this with a simple table of lines and dots.

The lines represent the 6 strings in horizontal lines across. The strings read e,b,g,d,a,e .The frets are represented by vertical bars on the table. On the strings are black dots which represent the strings which are to be pressed, you will also see the letter x on some strings, this indicates strings not to play to form the chord required.

There are numerous styles of guitar to play and numerous sounds used in different forms are something to that will come after practise. Practise is essential and while you learn to play guitar chords, all aspects needed for playing the chords. You have to be able to manoeuvre your hand and fingers to the correct places, when there you have to be able to press the correct strings without pressing others. This will take strength and co ordination to master, while you are practicing maybe try air guitar or playing a piece of wood to get the general idea.

Once you have progressed beyond the tablature stage of playing the guitar you will be able to read standard music notation, this will allow you to play more intricate music and to progress to playing songs and maybe even to writing your own. Once you have the knowledge , you will be able to look back and smile at your time spent when you learn how to play guitar chords!
